Organisation

The IT University of Copenhagen became an autonomous university, the 12th University in Denmark, on June 1st, 2003.

The top-most level at the ITU is the Board of Directors, which employs the Vice Chancellor and the Provost. ITU currently has seven faculty groups constituting one department and four administrative departments.

The position as Vice Chancellor of the university is a limited tenure appointment that expires every five years. Mads Tofte, PhD in Computer Science, has held the position since the university was founded in 1999. On november 15, 2009, the Board of Directors decided yet again to ask Mads Tofte to continue on as Vice Chancellor which he was happy to accept.
