The IT University building  

In June 2000, Henning Larsen Architects in collaboration with Carl Bro won the invited competition for a new building for the IT University.

Location

IT University building is approx. 19,000 m2. IT University is located toward the 800-meter Emil Holms Kanal in the northeastern part of Ørestad between Copenhagen and the Danish Radio's new buildings.

The building's shape

The building is shaped like a giant H. Two parallel building carcasses wrapped in a metal sheath surrounding a panoptic spaces out against what you have drawn a wide range of transparent 'drawers' in different lengths. Central compartment, which has a fine touch with the channel environment, nestled between the two town squares, a northern and a southern, and inviting space in a natural way to highway through the house.

What the jury focused on regarding the building

It was crucial for the jury to choose a project that would fit into the overall plan of Copenhagen. Were therefore very important that the selected project would be open and welcoming - even to other than the university daily users.

The project should reflect the characteristics of an educational institution, dealing with such a contemporary and important topic in information technology.

It was expected that the building will reflect the progressive, forward-looking IT environment in a way that the IT University itself, combining technology, design and people.

The following five architectural firms were invited to the competition:

  • Schmidt, Hammer & Lassen
