pIT - The Pervasive Interaction Technology Lab

This is the home page for the Pervasive Interaction Technology Laboratory - the pIT - at the IT University of Copenhagen. The lab hosts research projects run by the faculty of the IT University of Copenhagen and collaborating institutions. The lab hosts a wide range of resources and technologies for experimental design and development of hardware and software technologies for Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing. The pIT has a number of Members and hosts a number of Research Projects. Lab meetings are Mondays at 9-10 where we and our visitors give different pIT Talks.

If you are a student associated with ITU and want to do a master's thesis within Pervasive Computing Technology, see our list of Student Project for ideas. Please contact the faculty listed for further information.

Location: 3A.54 - also known as LAB 5

NOTE - The pIT lab and the IT University of Copenhagen is hosting Ubicomp 2010.

STUFF

  • The IPv6 project at the pITLab is starting this autumn - we are currently doing some groundwork (preparation of resources, hardware, docs) for it. If you are interested in this project, please contact sebastian_at_itu__dot_dk.
  • We are starting/intensifying a number of development threads at the lab - for this, various hardware items have been added and activated; from simple lab things like multimeters :) to Android phones, Arduino sets, Spectrum Analyzers, more Multitouch screens (expected). [9 June 2010, sebastian]
  • Jakob presented his ToCHI paper on Activity-Based Computing at the ACM CHI 2010 conference.
  • Sřren, Kristian, and Paul are defending their thesis Friday Feb. 19 at 10:00 in 4A.30. The project is described here.
  • I have described the Contingency Management Framework (CMF) in an ITU Technical Report (TR-2009-121), which has uploaded at the Software Resources page. [bardram]
  • ITUitter - see http://tiger.itu.dk:8000/ITUitter/ . Provides an overview of the deployment of the BLIP System at ITU, and shows real-time information on what bluetooth devices (mac addresses) are sensed by the system.
  • Gatecaller - Your Personal Guide at the Airport On Wednesday November 11 the SPOPOS project will present its results from Copenhagen Airport where a Gatecaller has been developed to guide passengers through the airport. Join the seminar and hear more about location-based services for your mobile phone and try out the Gatecaller at the IT University. The seminar will be held in Danish but there will be possibilities for networking during the event. The seminar is open for everyone.
  • Ph.D. courses: The list of Ph.D. Courses (2009) at ITU and how to apply.
  • Andreas Zimmermann's PhD Thesis has been uploaded. It contains chapters on context-awareness as concepts and different toolkits/frameworks for building context-aware systems.
  • 1/11 - Submission deadline for 'Labeling the World' special issue of IEEE Pervasive Computing journal. Please spread the word to people/communities you think might be interested. Don't hesitate talking to PIT member Thomas (tped@itu) who is co-editor of the issue, if you are considering to submit! - full CFP available here.
  • 14/9 - 11:00-12:00 - A Pattern Mining Approach to Sensor-based Activity Recognition - Dr. Tao Gu from SDU, Denmark.
  • 26/8 - Two paper on the ABC project was presented at the INTERACT 2009 conference:
    • CLINICAL SURFACES -- Activity-Based Computing for Distributed Multi-Display Environments in Hospitals. Jakob E. Bardram, Jonathan Bunde-Pedersen, Afsaneh Doryab and Steffen S{\o}rensen. In Human-Computer Interaction -- INTERACT 2009, pages 704-717, 2009.
    • A Novel Approach for Creating Activity-Aware Applications in a Hospital Environment. Jakob E. Bardram. In Human-Computer Interaction -- INTERACT 2009, pages 731-744, 2009.
  • 15/6 - Visits by Steven + Amy Voida [Steve + Amy Voida]. Note that this meeting is extended one hour, i.e. 9:00 - 11:00
  • June 2009 - The work on version 3 of the ABC Framework and Activity-Based Computing is published in ACM Transactions on Computer-Human Interaction (ACM ToCHI).
  • 3/8 2009 - Short and long paper deadline for TEI'10, the Fourth International Conference on Tangible, Embedded, and Embodied Interaction (Link) for which pIT lab member Thomas Pederson is co-program chair. The conference will be held in the brand new MIT Media Lab building in Boston, January 25-27 2010. Please consider this conference if you have anything to show or discuss that regards tangible and/or embodied interaction. Contributions to be published in the ACM Digital Library. Also, consider the alternative submission categories "explorations", "studios", and the graduate student consortium. Questions? Feel free to ask Thomas!
  • 9/3 – Azam Khan a Research Scientist at AutoDesk, Canada, is visiting the PIT lab and is giving a talk on large public displays. See e.g. their paper in IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications. Really cool stuff.
