Alongside the Hope and Insufficiency: Capacity Building in Ethnographic Comparison workshop upcoming in May, my co-organiser Justin Shaffner and I have designed a Visual Essay competition. Participants at the workshop will be interested in one another’s encounters with capacity building, but we are also hoping to hear from students who have a story to tell about what it has meant to them, in their fieldwork or elsewhere. We hope to line the walls of our meeting space with these visual essays, images of capacity building in action.
