This spring I’ll be sharing the Directorship of ITU’s ETHOS (Experimental Techno-Humanities and Organizational Services) lab with Marisa Cohn. It’s an “experimental space that creates value with IT by exploring data and data landscapes in contemporary society”. More straightforwardly, the focus is on the interfaces between anthropological and digital methods, with “data” at the core. It’s a community of researchers and students, an experiment in collaborative work, and an interface between the university and life outside of academia – more here.
In addition to integrating with the Lab’s existing teaching roles, and learning about its external partners and agreements, I’ll be building up the research side of the Lab. There is a lot of great work being done by members of Technologies in Practice and other research groups, through which we can make new thematic areas and student projects in 2016.
