In 2021, I took the TiP group to visit the exhibition “Time is in You“, co-curated by friend of TiP, Kristin Hussey. She gave us a fantastic tour, and in the afternoon, we came back to ITU to make our own exhibition “IT is in You”.
I tasked each group with creating an exhibition room on A3, naming it, and filling it with (imagined) exhibits drawn from the group members’ research. TiP-sters presented their resulting rooms, giving us a tour of a fantastical many-roomed gallery space.
These posters and presentations of these imagined exhibition rooms formed the basis of the commission to Naho Matsuda, an artist based in London. I shared the images of the posters and transcripts of the presentations with Naho, and over the first few months of 2023, she developed some riso-friendly versions of these posters, turning them into pieces of art. The amazing people over at Obra Press in Copenhagen printed them for us, and we unveiled the posters at the 2022 TiP summer event, with Kristin Hussey and Lucy Suchman joining us. Everyone got to take home “their” room!
The posters now hang in our department corridor, a very different version of the academic poster, and a way of showing guests some of the themes and connections in our work across the research group. They also make great gifts for visiting speakers etc. The images below don’t capture the riso vibrancy but give an idea of the creative genius behind both TiP-sters and Naho’s interpretation.
