Proxy Setup

The Proxy Setup page is used to configure JavaTM Web ServerTM to act as a proxy server. A proxy server typically runs on a firewall machine to provide Internet access for users on a private network inside a firewall. When Java Server functions as a proxy server, it can be configured to cache frequently-requested documents for faster retrieval and improved response times. Java Web Server can be used as a proxy server while also serving documents to local host machines inside the firewall.

Proxy setup is done by selecting one of two tab panels. These are:

Disk Cache Settings

Disk Cache
Enables or disables disk caching. If enabled, Java Web Server caches frequently requested pages for faster retrieval and improved response time.

Cache Location
Sets the location of the proxy server's cache file. The default location is server_root/cache.

Max Cache Size
Sets the size of the proxy cache file.

Proxy Chaining

HTTP Host
If the Java Web Server is acting as an intermediate proxy in an HTTP proxy chain, enter the host name of the HTTP parent server in the chain.

HTTP Port
Set the port number of the HTTP proxy host.

Note: Any time you define or change the port, you must restart the service. To do this, go to the Proxy Basic Setup page and select Restart Service.

FTP Host
If the Java Web Server is acting as an intermediate proxy in an FTP proxy chain, enter the host name of the FTP parent server in the chain.

FTP Port
Sets the port number of the FTP proxy host.

Buttons

To make changes to the Proxy Setup page and have those settings take effect, use the three buttons at the bottom of the screen. These are:
